NEA's Presidential
Recommendation, Email
Sent on 2/27/2020
On behalf of PSEA's Political Action Committee for Education (PACE), I am emailing you regarding the National Education Association's (NEA) recent announcement of their presidential candidate recommendation for the 2020 election. Please note that as Edinboro PSEA's PACE Chair, I pass along these messages disregarding personal opinion and emphasizing statements from the National Education Association.
On March 14, the largest union in the United States, NEA, announced that they are recommending Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. This statement was accessed from NEA's website.
Why NEA Chose Joe Biden at a Glance
(information is taken from NEA)
Educator Pay: "Joe supports raising educator pay: 'I want the American people to understand that it is overwhelmingly in their best interest that we pay teachers fairly.'"
Choosing an Education Secretary: "Joe Biden will fire Betsy DeVos: 'It’s really important that we have someone who’s actually been in the classroom…and include educators in the making of the policy.'"
Immigration Reform: "Joe will create a pathway to citizenship, starting with Dreamers: 'We’re who we are because of immigration.'"
IDEA and Title I: "Joe plans to triple IDEA funding: 'It’s against the interest of the country that we don’t spend the money we committed to do, to give children who come to school with some disabilities, to be able to learn as much as they’re capable of learning.' "
Racial and Economic Inequality: "Joe will invest in all students: 'I would make sure that we understand the moment the child is born no matter their color, their race, or their background they all have an equal shot. That’s why we would start with universal pre-K.' "
Charter Schools: "Joe wants to hold charter schools accountable: 'No privately funded charter school will receive a penny of federal money. None.' "
